The following environmental programs are being implemented at OAO MSZ with the purpose of carrying out the declared environmental policy:
- Program on withdrawal of equipment and facilities using ozone-destroying substances
As a result of the work performed, the quantity of all types of ozone-destroying substances and persistent organic pollutants has reduced by more than 30 % compared to 2000.
- Program on reduction of the waste water discharge
The above program foresees for the gradual decrease of pollutants discharged to the open water sources with the waste water and performance of the work to improve technical condition of the gutters on production site. A great amount of work is performed to improve existing water basins and drainage systems coming from the black oil handling area.
- Program on reduction of the water consumption by production workshops by 10 % by the end of 2006
The program foresees the measures aimed at improving existing water intake facilities, water assessment and reconstruction of recycling water supply systems. New equipment is being implemented.
- Program on reduction of electricity consumption by 10 % by the end of 2006
The program foresees implementation of the automated systems for accounting electricity consumption in production workshops and commissioning of the new energy-saving equipment.
The program provides for the assessment of the possibility to safely localize radioactive wastes from the environment by the company experts. It also includes the measure aimed at decreasing by 5 % by the end of 2006 the quantity of radioactive wastes transferred to “Radon” for final disposal. The work is in progress to transform metallic radioactive wastes into environmentally safe state.
Systems of solid radioactive waste handling and transfer are being improved.
There is a production area being in process of commissioning to be used for solid organic metal-scrap disposal.
- Program on reduction of the quantity of used hazardous toxic substances
The program incorporates the analysis of toxic hazardous substances consumption and includes the activities to replace environmentally dangerous substances with less toxic ones. |
