A specific nature of MSZ production activity requires a lot of attention to be paid to production safety issues. The work on assuring production safety is carried out according to the requirements of normative documentation, licenses of the RF Technical Supervising Body and recommendation of the
The company has implemented a number of radiation protection measures. For example, all the workshops and departments directly involved in the fuel production cycle as well as all the transport vehicles shall have sanitary and epidemiological certificates. Raw materials shall pass through a multi-stage incoming inspection.
At the same time the reference levels (much lower than limiting values) have been set for external surface contamination of the equipment, flooring and walls of production buildings as well as for the activity concentration of aerosols contained in the work area air. Moreover, radiation safety parameters, for instance, external g-radiation exposure of the personnel coming into intermediate contact with active components are being permanently monitored.
To determine accident exposure rate the personnel in nuclear-dangerous areas shall have accident dosimeters.
There are 450 sampling spots to measure a-activity of aerosols in the air within the work area.
Nuclear safety laboratory controls and prevents the invasion of radionuclides into human body.
All the employees working with ionizing radiation sources shall pass a periodical medical examination. During the past few decades no cases of occupational diseases being the result of ionizing radiation impact have been recorded testifying to the fact that radiation safety system is functioning well.
Top management of OAO MSZ focuses a lot of attention on the issues related to the decrease of radionuclide impact on the company personnel, population and environment. These issues can be solved by means of implementing new advanced automated technologies in production area and in waste handling procedures. The “Dry Conversion Plant” commissioned in 2003 allows to significantly reduce the activity concentration of enriched uranium aerosols in the work area and contamination of work surfaces. |
