The Acceptance Committee, comprised of the JSC TVEL, Rosenergoatom, Rostekhnadzor (Federal Service for Supervision of Environment, Technology and Nuclear Management), Russian Research Center KIAE, FSUE OKB Gidropress, SUE KPI and JSC MSZ representatives have successfully tested the VVER-440 FA components (caps, tailpieces, grids), fabricated from the precision casting workpieces.
The tests showed that the fabricated components fully comply with design documentation.
The signing of the final acceptance protocol was ensured by extensive preparatory work of quite a number of company’s departments: Production Planning, Engineering, Technical, R&D, Central Laboratory, Marketing and Component Production.
Since the components fabrication uses rolling, the method that generates a lot of chip wastes of expensive material, the company was challenged to come up with workpieces that fitted the weight of the parts as much as possible. One of the possible ways to obtain the required workpieces is to use the precise casting or mould casting method.
With 300 years of experience in casting, the german-based Zollern Company undertook to produce the cast workpieces by JSC MSZ’ order. Last year, JSC MSZ placed with the Zollern Company orders for 3 pilot batches. The cast workpieces were delivered in August and now the obligations of the Zollern Company are completely fulfilled.
The components, produced from the workpieces, will build the VVER-440 FAs for Kola NPP. By the end of this year, the Zollern Company is to deliver a pilot batch of the cast workpieces for the VVER-1000 FA. The batch will undergo complex tests before it is settled to run the production.
